FALL ADULTS: Waterworld: Techniques for Creative Expression and Wonder in Watercolor Painting

Course Description:
This is a class about the joy, passion, and wonder of watercolors! There are many different creative and FUN techniques that lend themselves to landscape painting as well as to figurative art, still lives, and abstracts. Allowing the paint to interact and move with water and other elements provides fascinating textures and spontaneous effects. Each week will be an exploration of a few exciting methods where the spirit of experimentation and freedom are encouraged along with ways that these intriguing techniques can be incorporated into specific designs. We will work with salt, clingwrap, ink, granulation medium, sea sponges, textured fabrics and ribbons, tools for splattering and scraping, masking fluid, artist’s tape, and gold leaf! Additionally, we will experiment with watercolor pencils, pearlescent and iridescent and metallic paints, gouache, collaging for additional textures, and using pastel in the final pass! The flow of water and paint has endless possibilities and brings the magic and beauty of the unknown and the inner creative giant to exuberant new life, in this shared exploration of the waterworld and the spirit and wonder inherent in this unique medium. No prior painting experience required – come and enjoy!
