CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS | Note: Some roles may be doubled.
  • Narrator - An intellectual and pleasant story-teller who helps to orchestrate the show and illustrate lessons to the audience. E4-G2
  • Cinderella - A young, earnest maiden who is constantly mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters. To play 20 to 30. G5-G3
  • Jack - The feckless Giant killer who is 'almost a man.' He is adventurous, naive, ener- getic, and bright-eyed. To play 20 to 30. G4-B2
  • Jack's Mother - Browbeating and weary, Jack's protective mother who is independent, bold, and strong-willed. To play 50 to 65. Gb5-Bb3
  • The Baker - A harried and insecure baker who is simple and loving, yet protective of his family. He wants his wife to be happy and is willing to do anything to ensure her happi- ness but refuses to let others fight his battles. To play 35 to 45. G4-Ab2
  • The Baker's Wife - Determined and bright woman who wishes to be a mother. She leads a simple, yet satisfying life and is very low-maintenance yet proactive in her en- deavors. To play 35 to 45. G5-F3
  • Cinderella's Stepmother - The mean-spirited, demanding stepmother of Cinderella. To play 40 to 50. F#5-A3
  • Florinda And Lucinda
  • Cinderella's stepsisters who are black of heart. They follow in their mother's footsteps of abusing Cinderella. To play 25 to 35. Ab5-C4
  • Little Red Ridinghood - A spoiled young girl who is strong-willed, quick-wited, fearless, yet youthful and naive. To play 15 to 20. F5-Bb3
  • The Witch - Sarcastic, ugly-then-gorgeous, obsessive protector of Rapunzel who is straightforward and aggressive. To play 45 to 55. G5-F3
  • Cinderella’s Mother - Deceased with her soul guarding and aiding her daughter from a tree. To play 40 to 55. F4-E4
  • Mysterious Man - A mischievous vagrant and nosy meddler. He is a good-natured pro- tector and observer. To play 50 to 65. Eb4-G2
  • Wolf - Hungry and insatiable hunter who takes advantage of the weak by misleading and captivating his prey. To play 30 to 35. Gb4-Bb2
  • Rapunzel - A loopy-but-lovely maiden who is sheltered by the Witch and terribly lonely. She yearns to experience the world. To play 20 to 30. A5-B3
  • Cinderella's Prince - Vain and gorgeous, he is a disloyal lover who is currently searching for the next new, exciting thing. To play 30 to 40. F4-B2
  • Rapunzel's Prince - Just as vain and gorgeous as his Prince brother, he is always chasing the newest, most exiting endeavor. To play 30 to 40. E4-C#3
  • Giant (Voiceover) - The Giant's wife is an angry and vengeful 'monster.' She is seeking restitution for her loss.

Auditions will be held in person at The Umbrella Arts Center - 40 Stow St. Concord, MA
 
WHEN
Tuesday, August 18 with appointments beginning at 4 PM Wednesday, August 19 with appointments beginning at 4 PM
Callbacks will be held by invitation only on Thursday, August 20th beginning at 4 PM.
 
WHAT TO PREPARE
Please prepare a short musical selection (1 minute or less) in the style of the show (Sondheim preferred) Please also prepare a contrasting musical selection (1 minute or less) should it be required. An accompanist will be provided.
