Lisa Lubarr
Drawing and Painting Instructor Lisa Lubarr is an award-winning and classically-trained professional portrait artist, with an M.F.A. in Painting from Boston University, and a B.A. in Fine Arts from Amherst College. In her portrait work, she is honored to follow in the lineage of her mother, who created exquisite pastel portraits by commission in New York and New England for decades. Additionally, Lisa completed a master’s degree in Religion in May 2024, studying at Harvard Extension and Divinity Schools and specializing in the art, archaeology, and mythology of ancient Greece and Egypt. With this training and passion for meaning, she seeks to bring symbolism and spiritual ideas about transformation and transcendence into her art practice. In a recent project, she is researching and illustrating a historical novel about potent women set in ancient Greece and beyond. She offers art instruction in drawing (pencil and charcoal) and painting (oil, watercolor, pastel, and mixed media), stressing both traditional techniques and the freedom to experiment and express – to break free from fear and to discover the living joy of line and color! To re-discover the wonder and exuberance of life’s forms and unlock one’s inner voice to literally burst and bloom on the page, beautiful and bold. In her portrait work, Lisa seeks to capture the essence and spirit of each subject, and the quality of light as it illuminates from without and as it shines from within.
