SUMMER ADULTS WORKSHOP: Foraging for Texture

BEG/INT/ADV

Course Description:
In this workshop we will begin by rolling out slabs and preparing them for hand-building before venturing outside of The Umbrella to collect items to add texture to your pieces such as leaves, grasses, and flowers. (Items will also be provided for textures that are pre-picked and brought to the workshop in the event of rain.) Once back at The Umbrella, we will talk about how to add natural items to your slabs and use these to create beautiful, unique items. Those with experience wheel throwing are also able to add textures to thrown pieces that are in the trim stage, if desired. We will be talking about recommendations for glazes and use of oxide stains to accentuate textures created with a demonstration of how to apply oxides and stains to a bisque piece at the close of the workshop. Students are encouraged to bring a small container for putting found items in. This class is suitable for all students.

Please note: Open only to students enrolled in the summer semester. Enrollment in this workshop does not grant access to the studio for the semester. If this registration is sold out please email zachary@theumbrellaarts.org to be placed on a waitlist.
