SPRING ADULTS: Basic Machine Sewing

Course Description:
Want to learn to sew? Need a refresher course on your sewing skills? Beginners will engage in project-based sewing sessions that will let them explore fabric and design while learning the basics of sewing on a machine, including how to thread and safely operate a sewing machine, accurately cut fabric, sew curves, install zippers, and more. More experienced sewers will have an opportunity to review the basics and advance their skills in a supportive, friendly setting.

Materials list:
—Sewing machine*
—Thread (cotton or cotton-poly thread; neutral gray works with almost any project)
—Bobbin(s) that fit your machine
—Any sewing notions you like to use (fabric scissors, small snips, pins, seam ripper, etc.). The Umbrella also has these items on hand if you don't have any or forget yours.
—Fabric will be provided for our first few projects. If you have a pattern you want to make, bring it to class and we'll discuss types of fabrics to purchase and yardage requirements.

*A sewing machine in good working order is required for this class and should be brought from home, or contact The Umbrella office for options.
