WINTER ADULTS: Introduction to Art and Laser Cutting Workshop

Course Description:
This 3 hour demo, "Introduction to Art and Laser Cutting," provides a hands-on overview of using laser cutting to create art. We’ll start with a brief introduction to laser cutting technology, including safety essentials and an overview of materials like wood, acrylic, and paper. Participants will learn basic vector design skills using software like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape, creating simple shapes and lines that translate into laser-cut designs. We’ll go over file preparation for the laser cutter, including setting line thickness and colors for different cutting and engraving effects. After a live demonstration on the laser cutter, each participant will have the opportunity to cut a small pre-designed piece, allowing them to see the process firsthand. The session wraps up with a discussion on incorporating laser-cut elements into mixed-media projects. By the end of this demo, participants will understand the laser-cutting process and have the resources and confidence to experiment with laser-cutting in their process.
