Workshop with Tomoo Hamada

Join us in welcoming contemporary Japanese ceramic artist Tomoo Hamada for a full day of demonstrations, slides, and conversation about his work.  Hamada is a third-generation ceramicist, son of Shinsaka Hamada and grandson to Shoji Hamada.  His work is evocative of the traditional aesthetic associated with his father and grandfather, while also undeniably unique to himself.  His work is celebrated in its contemporary exploration of form as well as surface and decorative innovations.

Hamada has lectured and exhibited internationally, and his works are in the permanent collections of Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco.

We can expect demonstrations of wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques as well as surface considerations and decoration.  Hamada’s work will be on exhibition at Pucker Gallery from May 10 - June 25, 2025.

Please note: This workshop will be presented on Wednesday, May 14. All regularly held Wednesday morning and afternoon classes are cancelled for that date.
