WINTER ADULTS: Mapping Glazes Workshop with Ruth Easterbrook

Workshop Description: Ruth Easterbrook will share the inspiration, process, and planning behind her work and extraordinary glaze surfaces. Through artist talks, demonstrations and discussion you will observe many ways to elevate your glazing process and achieve rich and unique looks with any temperature or type of firing. Join a second day for hands-on time to put these skills into practice. Ruth will be demonstrating and assisting while you deepdive into the many possibilities of enhancing your glazing process on your own works.

Saturday:  All are welcome to join Ruth Easterbrook for a day of slides, lecture, demonstration and discussion of her working process. We will explore how her sensibilities and techniques have evolved over time, paying special attention to surface, glazing and decoration.  Ruth will share how her use of glazes, through layering, pattern, and use of resists allows her to create unique and personalized work with widely accessible materials. Anyone is welcome to attend.

Sunday: Members of The Umbrella Ceramics community are welcome to join Ruth for a second day of hands-on learning. Participants will be guided through the techniques of decoration and glaze application introduced on Saturday.  Ruth’s process is adaptable to our community resources, glazes, and materials, offering the opportunity to grow your comfort and creative range with glazes. Open only to students registered for a Winter Semester ceramics class; Saturday attendance also required.

Please note: This workshop does not include studio access outside of scheduled workshop times/dates. Workshop registration deadline is February 7th.
