WINTER ADULTS: Beginning Mosaics
Course Description:
This course will introduce students to the process of creating a mosaic, from the design to the final installation. We will cover options for substrates, and interior and exterior applications. Each student will create a 16” x 16” mosaic.
Syllabus:
1st session: Intro to mosaics, drawing to scale, concepts for mosaic designs, begin work on drawings. Order mosaic materials. homework: create color study of mosaic design
2nd session: Place drawing on substrate, cover with fiberglass mesh, begin to apply mosaic
3rd session: Work on mosaic
4th session: Work on mosaic
5th session: Finish mosaic and attach to substrate
6th session: Grout finished mosaics and apply hanger
Class Supply List:
The materials fee for the class will cover:
- Boen self-adhesive Fiberglass mesh
- French Cleat for hanging finished mosaic
- Mosaic tape
- Sharpie Markers and Gorilla Glue or Epoxy
- 2 sheets Hardie backer 3’ x 5’
- AcrylPro 1 Gal. (4 qt.) Tile & Stone 72 Hr. Dry Time Tile Professional Tile Adhesive
Tools: rulers, copy paper, masking tape, pencils, erasers, color pencils, glass nippers, buckets, grout, sponges, etc.
Additionally, students should expect to spend between $70-$90 on several colors of vitreous mosaic glass for their 16” x 16” mosaic (to be purchased separately by the student).
