WINTER ADULTS: Documentary Sketching

Course Description:     
This course will increase students’ ability to rapidly interpret what they see using a variety of media including ebony pencil, ink wash, toned paper, and watercolor. We will cover the technique of the self-contained sketch, capturing as much information as possible in quick study. Participants will construct compositions based on their sketches.

Class will meet in various locations off-site and occasionally meet at The Umbrella’s classroom. First location will be emailed to registered students a week before the class start date.

Materials note: Students should purchase the supplies they want to work with. Suggested materials: ebony pencils, kneaded rubber erasers, pencil sharpener, brush with ink in the handle, travel set of watercolors, brushes, water container, paper towels, good-quality sketchbook of a comfortable size, toned paper, Chinese white, charcoal pencil, white pencil, colored pencils
