SPRING ADULTS: Saggar Workshop
INT/ADV
The Saggar Workshop is a 9-week session designed to familiarize students with the process of saggar firing from start to finish. We will plan on two firings, one midway through the session and one at the end. In preparation for the firings, we will be learning about throwing with ribs for maximum smoothness and how to make coil pots for the saggars as well as making our own saggars for the firing. Additionally, we will concentrate on terra sigillata treatments, gathering combustibles, packing the saggars and the post firing process. Students will be encouraged to follow their own style and pick their best pieces for the firing. There will be a limit on the size and number of pieces for the firing so that all student work can be fired. This course is all about experimentation and learning from your results. This class is suitable for intermediate-advanced students.
