Kurinuki Unveiled

BEG/INT/ADV

Course Description:
A Japanese term referring to the hand building technique of working from a solid block of clay and hollowing it out to create its interior, “kurinuki” asks a fresh and new approach to the medium. Working in a subtractive, rather than additive fashion will reinvigorate your existing practice by testing you to think of familiar forms in different terms. It encourages the artist to use clay’s material qualities in new ways, and presents unique sets of technical and aesthetic challenges with regard to form design and surface composition. This class is suitable for all skill levels.

Must be registered for a Winter Ceramics class or the Independent Program. Clay not included in registration fee. This is an all day workshop with a one hour break for lunch.
