Capital Campaign Director

Position Description:

The Umbrella Community Arts Center seeks a Capital Campaign Director responsible for a $15 million capital campaign.  This fundraising effort will support the reconstruction and renovation of the 85 year old facility that has been home to The Umbrella since 1983.  New construction includes a state of the arts education and performing arts facility, along with community spaces.  Renovations to the 1929 building will improve gallery spaces, public gathering spaces and 54 artist’s studios.  The Campaign Director will work closely with the Executive Director, the Campaign Chair, and a small development team to carry out a broad based fundraising plan targeting individuals, corporations, foundations and government agencies to support this initiative.

The Umbrella Community Arts Center:

Since its founding in 1983, The Umbrella has served as a dynamic community arts center and has significantly enriched the lives of people in and around Concord. The Umbrella’s high-quality programs, teachers, and artists are at the heart of the organization. The value of these offerings and individuals are immeasurably enhanced by their relationships with each other and by their contributions to the community.

Today, The Umbrella is at a transformative moment.  With a visionary board, exceptional programming, and a strong financial footing, the organization is primed for a major capital project.  With a recent major gift, we are at the halfway point of our $15M campaign.  Much of the groundwork has been laid through intense cultivation of new donors, re-envisioning long standing events and creating many new events.  In addition to some early gifts to the campaign, this has resulted in a dramatic increase in giving to our annual appeal.  We have a development staff in place to implement the ongoing annual giving.  We now seek an experienced professional to help us complete the campaign.  We expect that the successful candidate will spend 80% on their time on the capital campaign and 20% on oversight of ongoing annual giving.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Direct a $15 million capital campaign that supports renovations and reconstruction, taking the campaign from a quiet phase through construction and campaign completion (projected for fall 2019);

  • Other duties, as assigned.
