#DiscoverYourArts Showcase Call for Contributions
July 29, 2020 by Rachel Olson
A Multigenerational Exhibition for All of Us as We #StayHome #StaySafe #StayCreative
Since the start of the COVID-19 crisis and the shuttering of The Umbrella galleries, classrooms, theaters, studios, and Makerspace labs, The Umbrella has attempted to keep our community connected, growing, and thriving by going back to our core mission: We enrich lives and build a vibrant community through the arts...inspire creativity, learning, and personal growth through arts education programs, performing and visual arts presentations, and community collaborations" – even when forced to be apart.
To that end, our #staywell #stayhome #staycreative campaign underlies everything we've done for the past several months – from our Artist-in-Your-Residence partnership with Minute Man National Historical Park to our asynchronous virtual summer youth camps, our regionwide Summer Quest program to our expansive new online classes and curbside ceramics services, our calls for new digital works by local playwrights to Janet Scudder's free activity kits for toddlers and adolescents, and our star-studded, free, livestreamed Stand By Me virtual celebration of the arts.
Now, we want to provide an opportunity for you to Share What You Make!
We invite our community of youth and adult students, virtual campers, Summer Quest badge recipients, Ninjas in Nature, Artists-in-Your-Own-Residence, and other friends and neighbors of The Umbrella to share what you've been working at – in any genre or medium -- to stay creative and hopeful this spring and summer! Poetry, visual art, digital creation, video, audio, poetry or prose, photography, music composition, choreography, cupcakes – the works! Document your favorite creative endeavors and submit them for our summer’s end Discover Your Arts Showcase, a virtual exhibition advertised in Artscope, ArtsBoston, Wicked Local, and more! Label and upload images or videos of artwork, along with an "artist's statement" about your experience of creating the work, to our Showcase folder OR post your work on social media with hashtag #DiscoverYourArts on a rolling basis this fall OR be nominated by a class teacher OR email submissions or inquiries to caroline@theumbrellaarts.org.
All ages, experience levels, all locations, welcomed. We're in this together!
