The Umbrella Receives $85K Makerspace Grant

Hosts Lt. Gov, MA Development, and Dozens of Awardees

 On Tuesday, October 30, The Umbrella Community Arts Center was honored to host dozens of artists and innovators, Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, and grantmakers from MassDevelopment at a special ceremony in our newly renovated ceramics studios. The gathering was a ceremony for announcing $2,200,387 in Collaborative Workspace Grants awarded by MassDevelopment to 28 organizations from across the Commonwealth.

Construction Update 10.17.18

Update: Construction Area Evacuation, Closure

UPDATED:  Wednesday, October 03, 2018 - 6:20PM

CONCORD, MA —The Town of Concord has announced the closure of traffic and evacuation in the area surrounding The Umbrella Community Arts Center construction site at 40 Stow Street while public safety officials investigated possible issues with a large propane gas tank on the site.

At approximately 1:30 PM this afternoon, The Umbrella staff was notified by contractor CE Floyd that a construction worker, while operating a piece of equipment, hit a valve and knocked the top off the propane tank.

Volunteer Gathering and Gelli Printing Event

A Gelli Printing Event took place at the Umbrella Center for the Arts Annex on August 28. The event provided interested volunteers with the opportunity to meet other volunteers while experimenting with a simplified version of Gelli printing. Kathy Warren, Volunteer Coordinator for the Umbrella, organized the event and instructed the volunteers on how to make Gelli prints.

Volunteer CIT Spotlight: Celeste Caseria

Meet Celeste Caseria (Hi, Celeste!). She is sweet and friendly, creative and empathetic, and definitely a dog person. She has a golden doodle (part golden retriever, part poodle), and at 14 years old, she is looking forward to starting her freshman year of high school this fall. This past summer, she spent her weekdays volunteering as a Counselor in Training (CIT) at Umbrella Community Arts Center’s Summer Arts Under the Umbrella.
