Kaleidoscope: Prints by Lonnie Harvey

“Kaleidoscope”

32 Monoprint Installation by Lonnie Harvey

I created Kaleidoscope with the intention of putting multiple monoprints together to form a visual quilt.  Each monoprint has been created from inked plates, each carrying a selected color. By running the plates sequentially through the press, each image is layered upon the next, until the final composition is achieved. Geometric shapes are created using a series of masking stencils as each of the 4 to 6 layers are applied. I designed my stencils out of Frisket film (a self-adhering film with a removable adhesive often used in watercolor painting). Experimentation with stencil shapes, colors and ordering of layers allows me to develop each work individually, while the set of images appear visually connected. For the final installation, there are an infinite number of possibilities for combining the individual images, color and shapes into a collected dance of movement and color.
