Ways to Support

“Art is connection. The arts should be the all-encompassing meeting house, with its exchange of values, spirit and expression that The Umbrella has become.” – GBH’s Jared Bowen, Emmy award-winning host of The Culture Show, at The Umbrella’s 2025 Gala honoring Gregory Maguire, author of WickedFY24 Appeal Graphic

Now, more than ever, the arts unite and connect us: a way for us to synthesize our surroundings, express our ideals, and envision the world we want to create.

We know there is no shortage of valuable causes vying for your support this year. There are questions and challenges we will need to face as a community. We believe that the arts are uniquely capable of bringing us together. They give us space to explore, reflect, and connect. At The Umbrella, we are committed to creating an environment that cultivates these opportunities so that everyone who walks through our doors is energized to carry their experiences out into the wider world.

This year, The Umbrella will:

  • Provide more than 200 job opportunities to artists, teachers, performers, designers, technicians, and more

  • Serve over 25,000 learners, audiences, visitors, and community members

  • Create countless arts experiences in our galleries, studios, stages, theaters, classrooms, and throughout our region

More than 70% of every dollar contributed to The Umbrella goes directly into our programs, creating opportunities for exploration and connection that are vital to our community.

Donate through a Corporate/Employer Matching Gift Program

Many companies and employers have matching-gift programs, doubling (or in some cases even tripling) donations their employees make to a favorite charity. The Umbrella, a non-profit arts center, is a 501(c)(3) organization and eligible for matching gift contributions. Download Information Sheet for Employer Donor/Volunteer Matching Programs

If you or your employer have any questions, please contact Lila Searls at Lila@TheUmbrellaArts.org for more information.

Recommend a grant from your Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)

A donor-advised fund (DAF) provides donors with a centralized charitable giving vehicle. Through a donor-advised fund, you can allocate a charitable gift each year and take an immediate tax deduction. Commonly used donor-advised funds include Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, National Philanthropic Trust, and BNY Mellon, among many others. Recommend a gift to The Umbrella or contact Lila Searls at Lila@TheUmbrellaArts.org for more information.

Donate a Securities Gift

The Umbrella gratefully welcomes gifts of securities, and provides guidelines and contacts to minimize delays and expenses. Download Information Sheet About Donating Securities. For help, please contact Lila Searls at Lila@TheUmbrellaArts.org for more information.

Make a Gift in Honor of Someone Special

The Umbrella will gladly help you target your gift for a specific purpose or as a tribute to a particular person. For help, please contact Lila Searls at Lila@TheUmbrellaArts.org for more information.

Support us as a Business Partner

We are pleased to work with several organizations who wish to show their commitment to the arts and reach out to The Umbrella Arts community. Contact us for details about opportunities and benefits of support through our Business Partners Program.

Consider a Bequest

A bequest can be an easy and satisfying gift to make—it costs nothing now but can have enormous future impact. One of The Umbrella’s largest gifts to date was an unexpected bequest that served as the catalyst for our Building the Arts campaign! We welcome bequests of many types and all sizes. Your gift can take the form of:

  • a specific amount
  • a specific asset, such as property or securities
  • a percentage of your estate

A bequest gift may recognize a loved one or an influential artist, benefit a specific activity or program, or serve as a general and important investment in the future of the arts in our community. To learn more about making a bequest, please contact Katie Cimet at Katie@TheUmbrellaArts.org.
