WINTER ADULTS: Fleet Feet: A Trimming Intensive

INT/ADV

Course Description:
Join Katie Fee for a hands-on concentrated workshop oriented around one of the most dynamic phases of Vessel Making: approaches to trimming and finishing pots. In week one, after introduction and discussion, Fee will demonstrate considerations during wheel throwing to set up for success at the cheese-hard phase. Reductive trimming, additive feet, and altering feet will all be discussed. Students will have dedicated time to throw their own pots to bring back for part two. During part two, Fee will demonstrate several expressive trimming techniques, how to measure and adjoin a thrown foot to a vessel, and how to hand build a foot to develop a strong form. 3-D sketching and spontaneous design will be emphasized. Fee will also present a slide show with examples of combined methods, strong forms, and description of technical processes involved. Students will have dedicated time to try some of the techniques, but should expect to take new ideas home with them to play with at leisure. Registration for this workshop is open to all. This class is suitable for intermediate-advanced students.

Please note: For individuals not enrolled in a full semester class or the Independent Program: registration for this workshop does not include clay, glaze/glaze firings, or studio access outside of workshop hours. Any work produced during this event will be bisque fired. Students should bring their favorite pottery making tools and preferred trimming tools.
