WINTER YOUTH & TEEN: Drawing from Observation & Realism with Colored Pencils (Ages 11-15)

Course Description:
In this eight-week course, students will focus on completing one finished colored pencil drawing, with a focus on realism and attention to detail. We will start with the basics of capturing shape and proportion, and then move on to working with colored pencils, learning to shade, blend, and practice ways to observe color. Black and white is optional, in which case the focus will be on contrast. Students will be able to choose their own reference within certain subject matters such as animals, nature, architecture, or portraits.

Basic drawing skills recommended but not necessary; students will be expected to be able to maintain focus on one piece of art throughout the duration of the semester and put significant effort into a finished piece.
