WINTER ADULTS: Kintsugi Workshop

Course Description:
Kintsugi (金継ぎ, literally "golden joinery"), also known as kintsukuroi ("golden repair"), is the centuries-old Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. Rather than hiding the damage, the technique highlights the repairs, celebrating the object's history and imperfections. This 3-hour hybrid kintsugi workshop introduces both traditional urushi and a simplified repair method. Participants learn the philosophy and hands-on process of kintsugi while repairing a small broken piece.

Please note: This is an intro to Kintsugi class and is suitable for beginners. The result from this workshop is not food safe. Participants will be asked to provide a photograph of their intended piece before the workshop for prior approval by the instructor.
Registration open to all.  Note for individuals not enrolled in a full semester ceramics class or the Independent Program: Registration for this workshop does not include clay, glaze/glaze firings, or studio access outside of workshop hours.
