Catherine LeComte Lecce
Catherine LeComte Lecce, is a Boston-based visual artist who explores familial relationships, motherhood, and personal experiences through photography, mixed media, and installation. Advocating for greater visibility of artwork centered around motherhood and created by mother artists is a central passion for her.
Her work has been showcased in numerous group exhibitions across the Greater Boston Area, including prominent venues such as The Griffin Museum of Photography, Piano Craft Gallery, Panopticon Gallery, Abigail Ogilvy Gallery, and Gallery 263.
Catherine earned her BFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2014 and recently completed her MFA in Photography from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2023. She is the proud mother of one son, Bodhi, with her husband Richard Lecce.
During her residency, Lecce plans to utilize photography and a gel image transfer process, crafting a series of glass works that delve into the themes of motherhood. Employing diverse artistic methods, she aims to explore the transformative journey of becoming a mother, delving into the profound physical, psychological, and emotional changes women undergo during pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and beyond. Her artistic exploration encompasses the development of a mother's identity and maternal mental health, with a primary goal of raising awareness about postpartum anxiety and the unique challenges faced by mother artists.
