VISIT THE UMBRELLA FOR ANNUAL OPEN STUDIOS

Concord, MA - The Umbrella invites community members to their annual Open Studios Saturday, April 7 and Sunday April 8, from 12:00-5:00pm at 40 Stow Street in Concord, MA. This event is free an open to the public. More information at theumbrellaarts.org.

Since The Umbrella opened in 1983, it has served a home-away-from-home for hundreds of artists throughout the region. The artist studios in the building have been the center of activity for fine arts as wide-ranging as painting, woodworking, violin-making, photography, printmaking, jewelry, ceramics, and weaving.

The artists describe the importance of having a separate space to pursue their work that buzzed with energy. “The character and support of this place is like what I had at the Art Students League in Manhattan. I left there when I married and thought I’d never find it again. And yet here I am,” said painter Lois Andersen.

Open Studios is chance to engage with the talented resident artists at The Umbrella. Between The Umbrella's annual Winter Market and Open Studios, over 3,500 people visit to meet the artists and experience artwork made in their hometown. During these events, the artists get as much out of the interaction as the public. As Mary Pope described, “It keeps you very vital to have a responsibility to an organization.”

While you're visiting the studios, make sure to stop by the gallery to see DUALITIES, an exhibition that showcases the many different media in which our resident artists work.
