SPRING ADULTS WORKSHOP: Kintsugi
Please note: Registration is open to all but does not include clay, glaze/glaze firings, or ceramics studio access outside of workshop hours.
Course Description:
Kintsugi (金継ぎ, literally "golden joinery"), also known as kintsukuroi ("golden repair"), is the centuries-old Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with synthetic urushi, epoxy putty, and mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. Rather than hiding the damage, the technique highlights the repairs, celebrating the object's history and imperfections. This 3-hour hybrid kintsugi workshop introduces both traditional urushi and a simplified repair method. Participants learn the philosophy and hands-on process of kintsugi while repairing a small broken piece. This is an intro to Kintsugi class and is suitable for beginners. The result from this workshop is not food safe. Participants will be asked to provide a photograph of their intended piece before the workshop for prior approval by the instructor.
