FALL ADULTS WORKSHOP: Narratives in Clay: Myth & Form
BEG/INT/ADV
Course Description:
This is a two-day workshop with demonstrations and hands-on components on both days. On the first day, Dikareva will begin with a slide presentation exploring mythology and artistic inspiration, followed by demonstrations of essential hand-building techniques. Students will learn slab construction, sculpt expressive faces, and creating gestural elements. The session will also introduce building methods for both wall-hanging and free-standing sculptures, offering versatile display possibilities. Whether emerging from childhood memory, cultural myth, or pure imagination, students will learn to give form to their narratives.
The second day focuses on transforming the ceramic surface into a vibrant canvas for storytelling. Students will explore the application of slips and underglazes and develop skills in the sgraffito technique -- carving through layers of color to reveal depth and contrast. These approaches will help create dynamic textures and richly layered surfaces that bring sculptures to life.
Throughout the workshop, Dikareva will work collaboratively with students to nurture personal iconography and develop meaningful forms with narrative presence. Through a balance of creative exploration and hands-on instruction, students will discover their artistic voice while refining both construction and surface techniques. All skill levels are welcome
Registration open to all. No experience necessary. 15 lbs of clay and bisque firing included in the price of this workshop. Studio Access outside of workshop times, glazing, and glaze firing are not included in this registration.
