WINTER ADULTS: Oil Painting and Drawing; Considering Composition and Color

Course Description:
Think about some painting you admire; what are the elements the painter used to make that statement?

This class emphasizes the elements of composition; the organization of line and shape, and the ways color and values work together to create a dynamic whole. Drawing is the foundation for organizing your thoughts as a stand-alone piece or in preparation for a painting. Students may elect to use the entire term to concentrate on drawing alone.

This class has always included both advanced and less experienced painters, creating a congenial, supportive learning environment. First time painters should plan on spending significant time drawing.

Direct observation is encouraged, and a still-life set up will always be available. Students may also bring their own objects as subject matter or work from a strong photo image.
