FALL ADULTS: Combined Methods
INT/ADV
Course Description:
Break down the boundaries between handbuilding and wheelthrowing in this exploratory, project-based studio course. Designed to support students in developing and advancing their personal body of work, this class encourages experimentation and risk-taking through the integration of traditionally distinct ceramic techniques.
Students will work with a variety of forming methods—including throwing, coiling, pinching, and slab construction—to explore new ways of building both functional and sculptural forms. Emphasis will be placed on pushing material limits, rethinking processes, and using form as a site for expressive inquiry.
A series of thematic projects, responsive to the group’s interests, will offer structure while leaving room for individual interpretation. In addition to form-making, students will investigate surface through slip and glaze application, carving, texture, and layered resist techniques. This class is suitable for intermediate-advanced students.
