WINTER ADULTS: Soda Firing Workshop
INT/ADV
Course Description:
We are offering currently enrolled students the chance to register for upcoming soda firings. Registration will provide a “share” of the kiln, approximately one 14” X 28” kiln shelf worth of space. Work will be loaded with an eye to fairness and an efficient kiln load.
For those new to soda firing we will be offering a ~2 hour orientation and informational meeting on Wednesday, January 15th from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Participants will also be sent an informational handout via email. Registration for this firing will also require participation in either the loading, firing, or unloading process. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the technical aspects of firing ceramic work. We will plan on firing two kilns: one in February and one in March (see dates below). Work from participants will be distributed through those two kilns based on volume and loading needs, and participants can purchase more than one share. Firing dates are subject to change if necessary. Questions should be directed to zachary@theumbrellaarts.org. This class is open to intermediate-advanced students currently enrolled in a Winter semester ceramics class or the Independent Program (not recommended for beginners).
