CURATORS’ STATEMENT

In lieu of a curator’s statement for this communally-created exhibition, each participating studio artist was asked to write one sentence to reflect their process or piece in the show. Visual artists’ statements and piece titles correspond with the numbers in the numbered layout below.

 

1: Cynthia Katz | Studio 307 "Holding Together #2" Cyanotype on paper on panel ($500)
I work with cyanotypes, a 19th c. photographic process, crafting one of a kind works on paper using natural objects often reimagining images, reclaiming and restoring parts into new narratives.

2: Deborah Richardson | Studio 115 "Feathered" Glazed porcelain, watercolor pencil ($300)
As a multi-media artist, my work reflects Nature and her multi-facets.

3: Lonnie Harvey | Studio 111 "Star Fish" Monoprint collaged on wooden panel ($300)
I used hand-made stencils, etching inks, and other materials to create one of a kind works on paper.

4: Andy Newman | Studio 219 "Three Green Doors (Ajuda, Lisbon)" ($495) I work on multiple pieces at the same time.

5: Jill Goldman-Callahan | Studio 303 "Lavender Sea" Cold wax and oil $400)
A contemporary abstract painter interested in mystery and process.

6: Don Alden | Studio 311 "Purple Peace" Oil ($295)
A combination of abstractions, abstract landscapes, objects in liminal space, color and texture. The work has evolved to evoke healing, mystical balance and the tension between dark reality and open positivity.

7: Ilse Plume | Studio 301B "Morning on the Farm" Mixed Media ($400)
I create illustrations for books for children.

8: Mimsey West | Studio 208 "Fragments" Watercolor ($100) My art celebrates landscapes, fragile nature is essential...

The reasons for making my art are deep and personal, my work has to do with my passion for: life, excitement, the unknown, change, fire, being a bit provocative, lusty, fun, joyous, celebrating bodies.

I photograph myself, my memories, and the world around me.

11: Cat Johnstone | Studio 301A "Untitled" Wire ($250)
I sculpt with wire, which is like drawing in three dimensions, while simultaneously offering a multitude of possibilities for creating the illusion of volume in space.
