Shoni Hallock-Martin

Shoni is a Massachusetts-based artist who graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2024 with a BFA in painting. They mainly work with oil and acrylic, but also experiment with painting in the expanded field, as well as book-making, collage, and glass. Their paintings are mostly derived from photographs they have taken and explore themes of self-identity and the juxtaposition of society expecting women to be soft and gentle while putting them through extreme hardship and violence. Song titles/lyrics are frequently used in their art to expand upon the ideas presented in the specific piece. Currently, Shoni works at Art Signals Studio in Maynard, MA, helping with studio organization and customers with pottery painting and a variety of other crafts.
