Claire Bellanger

Claire is an Art Historian, museum lover, and avid proponent of the power of art in our communities. With over 8 years of experience in the arts and nonprofit sector, including the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and Artists for Humanity, she has developed a range of experience in collections management, archiving and conservation, exhibition curation and installation, and educational programming. As arts institutions navigate a changing landscape, Claire believes it is necessary to question existing frameworks in order to acknowledge, challenge, and reframe previous exclusions.

Claire received her BA in Art History and a BA in English, with a certificate in Museum Studies from the University of Georgia and holds an MA in the History of Art and Architecture from Boston University. Her academic research is closely aligned with inclusion work and expanding perspectives in cultural institutions with her MA thesis exploring contemporary modes of interpretation and issues of accessibility in museums. Claire is excited to employ her passion for equity and access in the arts at The Umbrella.

Originally from Louisiana, Claire stereotypically loves nothing more than a hot bowl of gumbo or a crawfish boil. In her free time, she enjoys going to the movies, hiking the Blue Hills or trails in New Hampshire (if she’s feeling especially ambitious), and curling up on the couch with a good book and her cat, Babs.
