Driven by curiosity and a background in Wildlife Biology, Cynthia Fisher has created varied and philosophical works that seek to elevate mosaics beyond the world of craft and into fine art. Through inspiring cultural conversations, Fisher aims to engage the viewer in questioning our impact on the natural world.

Utilizing a wide range of materials, including vitreous glass and broken pottery, the tactile and textured nature of the medium forces us to share the space. Prompting questions about how we currently engage with the world around us and how it may engage with us. Through her works, she explores our environmental impact on our planet, addressing not only the greatness of human life, but our responsibility towards the natural world.

CYNTHIA FISHER

A professional artist with over 35 years of experience, Cynthia Fisher has focused on refining and elevating mosaic art since 2000. Fisher’s art career began as an editorial and children’s book illustrator, metamorphosing to full time mosaic artist over several years. At her studio, Big Bang Mosaics studio in rural western Massachusetts, she creates installations for public, residential, and corporate settings nationwide. Her diverse body of work ranges from illustrative to painterly to non-representational. Her public art mosaics can be seen in a wide variety of settings, from hospital walls to town centers, performing arts centers, museums, community splash pads and fountains. These mosaics are large, colorful and full of movement and energy. Fisher handles all aspects of their creation, from sketching to mosaic fabrication and installation.

Fisher has completed school residencies and community projects here in the US and in Guatemala since 2013, creating murals in the community of San Lucas Tolimán, where there are now more than 50 murals on the walls of the town. Fisher also teaches at craft centers and in her studio, always finding time to create her own work, including this current series, On Being Human.
