Sarah Szafran-Pollock

Sarah Szafran-Pollock is a theatre artist and teacher. She has been performing in and making theatre since she was a small child. While she never did performing arts at The Umbrella as a child, she was a camper for a few years learning how to draw and paint (though ceramics was her favorite). A recent graduate of Sarah Lawrence College with an M.F.A in Theatre and Suffolk University with a degree in Theatre and minors in Film and Art Admin, Sarah is focused on making her own stories and instilling children with the same love of theatre she has. In her teaching Sarah approaches theatre technique through the lens of a director and an actor. She believes that theatre and the arts is a place where children are truly themselves, even if they are in character.  Sarah also believes in teaching all children the technical components of theatre to instill a jack of all trades mindset.

Past experience includes working at Wheelock Family Theatre as an assistant teacher for a summer and through the school year, directing collegiate shows and working on an electrics and stage crew.  In her personal practice she spends her time writing plays that delve into the LGBTQ+ experience and hopes to direct more shows around Massachusetts.
