Take 5 with Marketing Intern Sophie Legault

Sophie Legault is a 2026 graduate of Endicott College with a Bachelors of Fine Art and joins Umbrella Arts as a Marketing Intern this summer. We "took five" with Sophie to talk about the projects she's been working on this summer and what brought her to Umbrella Arts! 

What kind of artist do you identify as? How long have you been practicing your art(s)?
I would say I am a multi-media artist. I do a lot of different kinds of art, painting, drawing, mixed-media, and even some theater as well. I am always looking to learn and explore new mediums. I have been drawing ever since I can remember and art has always been a big part of my life. I think I really leaned into the creativity during Covid when we were all stuck at home and there was nothing to do, so I would just make art.

Tell us about your educational / career pursuits. What are your interests, passions, or the dream job?
Through internships and other jobs I have been exploring the different corners of the art field and seeing what I might like to pursue as a career. I have worked a number of internships, including teaching.

What first drew you to interning at The Umbrella?
I grew up in Concord and have been around The Umbrella for almost my whole life. I remember going to April Vacation Week and using one of the rooms here for ballet classes. I have more recently loved seeing all the amazing work the artists do at Open Studios and Winter Market. I wanted to see what it was like working for a multifaceted arts non-profit that does so many different things, like The Umbrella. I thought it would be interesting to see how it all came together behind the scenes.

Tell us about a time you experienced a work of art (or example of marketing!) that really inspired you.
I don’t have one particular work of art, but I am always so inspired by other artists, and seeing their processes and the work they create. In college it was great working in a space that had other artists also working and doing all kinds of art. Seeing what others create inspires me to think outside the box and be imaginative in my own work. 

What have you learned so far in this internship? What have you brought to and/or accomplished in the role that you're proud of?
I have already learned so much from the short time I have been interning. I really love learning new things and adding them to my repertoire. One really cool thing was being able to put together the virtual tour of the Summer Student Showcase using Matterport. I got to learn the technology for a 3D scan and then explore how I could use the different parts of the program to make the experience the most viewer friendly. It was a really cool project to get to work on, and it also gave me an excuse to look at all the amazing student artwork in the show many times.
