BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL
Story and Book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming
Music and Lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe
Licensed under agreement with Weekly World News
Directed by Jeremy Johnson

Approximate run time: 2 hours (including a 15 minute intermission)

THE STORY
Half-bat, half-boy, ripped from the tabloid headlines, and thrust into the spotlight! In this camp horror comedy, a misunderstood monster seeks a place to belong. Taken in by a veterinarian, endeared to his adopted sister Shelly, and reviled by the locals, mild-mannered “Edgar” searches fiercely for a place he can truly be himself. Set to an eclectic pop-rock score by Laurence O'Keefe (Legally Blonde, Heathers the Musical), Edgar’s wild journey is a hilarious satire and an offbeat fable for the outsider in all of us.

PRAISE FOR BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL
“Big laughs… it’s remarkable what intelligent wit can accomplish… a jaggedly imaginative mix of skewering humor and energetic glee.” – The New York Times

“Smart, playful and funny… a giggling cult hit.” – The New Yorker

“Outrageously silly and totally charming.” – The Daily News

CONTENT NOTE

BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL is a bloody good time -- literally! The cast uses washable blood effects that may impact those seated in the first few rows (A-C) of the theater. In light of that fact, if you have purchased a seat in this section and wish to be re-seated, please contact the Box Office.

There is no rating system for live theater. We encourage you to use the resources available from Umbrella Arts and other online resources such as reviews of the previous productions to gauge whether a production is a good fit for any potential audience member. Umbrella Arts generally recommends BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL for mature audiences, teens and up, while acknowledging that maturity levels can vary widely. Teens aged 16+ are most likely to appreciate both the darker content and camp sensibility of this show. This production does contains simulations of violent and sexual acts, as well as the sound of gunshots, use of theatrical haze, and strobe-like lighting effects.
