FALL ADULTS: Slab Lab

BEG/INT/ADV

Course Description:
In this class we will explore the versatility of creating with slabs. Slabs are sheets of clay and therefore sewing and millinery techniques can be used to shape and form a vessel or sculpture. We will go over the use of darting and gusseting to alter silhouettes; creating pattern on soft slabs; using hump or slump molds to form bowls or platters; working with stiff slabs to create more structural pieces such as boxes and plinths; and combining soft and stiff slabs to make mugs and handles. An additional feature of this class will be learning to take paper templates from existing forms to reduce or enlarge, alter and reconstruct to make multiples. This class is suitable for all levels.
