DRAGON MOM, short documentary and panel discussion: Saturday, November 21, 4 PM with pizza reception to follow | Free | RSVP here
Dragon Mom, a short documentary directed by Harrison Buck and featuring Concord resident Laura Will and her son Alden who attends Thoreau Elementary school. This film has already begun making an impact on both film festival audiences and disability-access communities. Premiering across the globe over the last 6 months, and receiving awards for best short, best adaptive documentary, and best original score, reviewers highlight its honest, intimate portrayal of motherhood and belonging—and its ability to tell a disability story without relying on pity or sentimentality.
Perhaps most significantly, the film is already inspiring action beyond the screen. The film has generated opportunities for community conversation, including screenings connected to disability advocacy, adaptive recreation, and outdoor access. Its central message—that disability should not mean a smaller life, and that communities can design access rather than simply ask people to adapt—is resonating well beyond the film itself.
Featured in the film is Laura Will, a Concord resident, and mother to three young children, one of whom lives with a life-limiting condition. She holds a master’s degree in nursing, with a career focused on palliative medicine. She writes and edits professionally for Courageous Parents Network, a non-profit that empowers and educates parents and clinicians caring for medically complex children. Laura serves on the Concord Commission on Disability and on a Parental Advisory Board supporting adaptive recreation research programs at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.

The panel discussion will answer audience questions and build upon the film's themes.
This is considered a family-friendly event; children ages 6+ are welcome.
