Can you explain your volunteer work?
Every month since October 2019, my mom and I collect flyers from The Umbrella Arts Center and distribute them at businesses throughout West Concord. The flyers advertise the events and programs being offered at The Umbrella.
How did you get started?

Since the start of the Covid-19 lockdown, Kathy Warren, Volunteer Coordinator for The Umbrella, has been working with a team of volunteers throughout the region to create artfully crafted masks to share with The Umbrella staff and wider community.
Over the course of the first week, the volunteers – including skilled quilters and fiber artists -- crafted approximately 70 masks, many in richly decorated fabrics.

Mary O’Connell first got involved with The Umbrella through taking acrylic painting classes with Joy Buell. She studied art in school and has been seeking to reconnect to her studies now that her kids are older. She continued her involvement by volunteering to usher for the productions at The Umbrella.
Can you explain your volunteer work?

April 1, 2020 – Concord, MA -- The Umbrella Arts Center has joined the effort to help in the public health emergency. Although officially closed since March 24 pursuant to Gov. Baker's emergency order, The Umbrella has dedicated some of its new Makerspace equipment to fabricate personal protective equipment (PPE) for staff at Emerson Hospital.

Can you explain your volunteer work?
I distribute the monthly flyers for The Umbrella, and I post them around Concord Center. The flyers often include information about the theater shows and galleries. I love doing the flyer runs because they allow me to learn more and be more involved in Concord, the town I live in. I especially enjoy spending time outdoors and getting to walk around our beautiful town.

Can you explain your volunteer work?
I am an assistant at the children’s clay lessons at The Umbrella, where I help my supervisor, Katharine, teach the kids hand-building and wheel-throwing. I also do whatever Katharine needs, giving an extra hand. This often involves cleaning up.
