About Roger H. Brown, president of Berklee College of Music

Roger H. Brown, president of Berklee College of MusicRoger H. Brown is the third president of Berklee College of Music in the institution’s 69-year history. As the president of Berklee College of Music, Brown completed the institution’s first capital campaign, Giant Steps, which raised more than $50 million, and is currently leading the second, Soundbreaking, with a goal of $100 million. He has created scholarship programs for international musicians, established a number of institutes including the Berklee Global Jazz Institute under the direction of jazz pianist Danilo Perez, and established a Berklee campus in Valencia, Spain. Under his leadership, the City Music Program, which offers educational opportunities to economically disadvantaged young musicians, has expanded outside of Boston, now serving over 20,000 middle school and high school-aged young people. Before joining the college, he co-founded Bright Horizons, the largest provider of worksite childcare in the world, with his wife, Linda Mason. Brown has also been a leader in humanitarian initiatives in Africa and Southeast Asia. He is an avid drummer.

Mr. Brown has been recognized for his humanitarian, educational, and entrepreneurial achievements by the government of Valencia, Spain with the Cruz de Honor, by the March of Dimes Franklin Delano Roosevelt Humanitarian Award, and by being named, along with Ms. Mason, as a Visionary Social Entrepreneur at the 2012 Social Venture Network’s Hall of Fame Celebration.
