Life calls for courage: a moment when you step off the beaten path and into the woods, when your voice rises above the silence, when you reach out to make a connection or take a risk to make a better world.
This season at The Umbrella Arts Center, the Stage Company invites you into that moment across four extraordinary works that confront the same question: what does it take to be truly, fully, fiercely yourself?
Come sit with us in the dark, where bravery has always lived, and let the lights rise on stories of courage that thrill and inspire.
BAT BOY, THE MUSICAL | SEPTEMBER 25 - NOVEMBER 8, 2026
Half-bat, half-boy, ripped from the tabloid headlines, and thrust into the spotlight! In this camp horror comedy, a misunderstood monster seeks a place to belong. Taken in by a veterinarian, endeared to his adopted sister Shelly, and reviled by the locals, mild-mannered “Edgar” searches fiercely for a place he can truly be himself. Set to an eclectic pop-rock score by Laurence O'Keefe (Legally Blonde, Heathers the Musical), Edgar’s wild journey is a hilarious satire and an offbeat fable for the outsider in all of us.
I AND YOU | OCTOBER 9 - NOVEMBER 22, 2026
A homebound teen and an unexpected visitor clash over a Walt Whitman assignment that will lead them to a stunning epiphany. Caroline is sharp-witted, guarded, and sardonic as Anthony is athletic, sensitive, and popular, but as they debate ecstatic poetry, life and love, youth and mortality, they discover they are more connected than they may seem. A luminous play from America’s most-produced playwright Lauren Gunderson, I and You is a genuinely funny, deeply moving ode to all the unseen ways we are connected.
INTO THE WOODS | FEBRUARY 26 - MARCH 21, 2027
Once upon a time… Fairy tale characters collide on their journeys toward “ever after,” sending them soaring into unexpected adventures and new discoveries. Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Jack (of the Beanstalk), and more find out what it takes to not only to make a wish, but to make it through the unknown, together. Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Tony award-winning masterpiece brings classic tales to life with hallmark wit and wisdom, weaving a magical world of breathtaking depth and unforgettable melodies.
INDECENT | APRIL 30 - MAY 23, 2027
A love story and a ghost story – based on a true story – for dangerous times: in 1923, a company of players dared to perform the first Broadway play to feature a kiss between two women. When playwright Sholem Asch’s complex portrayal of Jewish family, God of Vengeance, is slammed with an obscenity trial, its band of artists risk everything to perform it. Award-winning Director-choreographer Ilyse Robbins (tick, tick… BOOM!, The Spitfire Grill) brings Pulitzer prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel’s powerful story of resistance to life with stirring klezmer music, poignant dance, and searing debates about the nature of art, freedom, and love.
Plus… We are pleased to present two collaborations in our expanding partnership with the Firebird Pops Orchestra! Attend our beloved Holiday Pops concert and a to-be-announced spring Musical in Concert.
And… Our Broadway concert series continues! Join us over a wintry weekend in 2027 and be serenaded by one of the Great White Way’s brightest stars.
