Girl Scout and Boy Scout Badges

Looking for your troop to earn a badge in the arts? The Umbrella is the perfect place for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of all ages to earn a badge in wherever their creative interests lie. We can accommodate badges in the following areas:

  • Drawing/Illustration
  • Painting
  • Pottery
  • Digital Arts (digital photography, filmmaking, animation, etc.)
  • Woodworking
  • Textile Arts
  • Mixed Media/Collage
  • Makers and Design

Our instructors offer engaging, fun, and creative sessions to ensure your troop will meet the criteria to earn their badges. We can accommodate studio tours, information and interview sessions with our talented instructors who are practicing artists in their respective fields. Badges can be earned as a group or as an individual.

2D/Craft Arts/Mixed Media Badges:
We can work with the wants and needs of your badge requirements. Let us know what you want to explore and our expert artists/instructors can help with the process.
Cost: $15 per participant with a minimum of 15 people. $20 per person with 14 or fewer participants.

3D/Ceramics/Pottery Badges:
Hand building, wheel-throwing and/or glazing a piece of pottery can also be accommodated! Wheel-throwing is limited to 8 kids at a time. Large groups can be split into two and scheduled in back-to-back sessions. We have two options for clay project classes:

  • Clay projects without glaze
  • Classes for fired clay projects without glaze do not include time to glaze sculptures. You will create and fire personal works of art. Keep in mind, these nonglazed sculptures CANNOT be used as functional tableware.

  • Clay projects with glaze
  • Classes for fired clay projects WITH glaze include creating and glazing a work of ceramic art. You will make a sculpture that will be fired unglazed (the sculpture will not be food or liquid safe yet) and later, you will glaze and fire a premade piece of pottery (this glazed pottery is now food safe). You can choose from our many glaze colors as well as paint designs on your piece! Premade pieces of terracotta are purchased to glaze for $7.50 each.
Note: *Clay work will be fired three-four days after the event, and will be ready for pick up by a troop leader on the following Friday. Troop leaders are responsible for project distribution to troop families. The cost of the pottery/ceramics badge includes the firing fee.

Cost: $15 per participant with a minimum of 15 people. $20 per person with 14 or fewer participants. For glazing classes, add $7.50 per person for a piece of terracotta pottery for each person to glaze.
