Alexa Mattes graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a BFA in Ceramics in 2015. During her time at MassArt, Alexa completed a ceramics internship with Mudflat Studios and an art therapy internship at The Webster House. These experiences led her down the path of education, and the summer after graduation, Alexa joined the Umbrella as a summer camp clay instructor. Alexa has continued to teach both camp and after school ceramics classes at the Umbrella as well as other studios throughout the greater Boston area. In 2019, Alexa accepted the position as the Upper School Ceramics Teacher for Shore Country Day School in Beverly, Massachusetts.
Alexa enjoys creating ornate, narrative pieces using intricate surface decorating techniques. She is inspired by nature, graphic novels, and antique objects.
