Writing Out Loud

Come join us to explore and strengthen your artistic voice as you write poetry, journal entries and short fictional pieces. The central focus of the class will be on self-expression through writing, but we will also be incorporating a range of artistic means (drama, visual arts, movement, music) to help you dig more deeply into your lives and consider the things that help to make and shape you. Nature will also play a prominent role in this class and there will be opportunities to experience the natural world and use your senses to build and expand your voice. The class will include collaborative projects to help develop connections within the group and will provide a safe, trusting place in which to share ideas and experiment with new ways of self-expression.

Materials: You’ll need a journal for writing and sketching and some writing implements.  Colored pencils, a small watercolor case, tape, scissors and a glue stick would also be helpful to have on hand.

Some class meetings will be virtual and others will be in-person on the front lawn of The Umbrella. There is no mandatory in-person attendance, and it is up to the discretion of the student if they attend in person.
