Staged Reading: HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE By Paula Vogel

Join us on January 20, 2017 for a staged reading of HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE By Paula Vogel. Directed by Michelle Aguillon, the play follows the strained, sexual relationship between Li'l Bit and her aunt's husband, Uncle Peck, from her adolescence through her teenage years into college and beyond. Using the metaphor of driving and the issues of pedophilia, incest, and misogyny, the play explores the ideas of control and manipulation.

The staged reading series was designed to highlight lesser-known or rarely produced works with a focus on telling stories which create dialogues or tackle important social issues. The series provides a platform for important voices to be heard and for our artists and audiences to engage with the Performing Arts at The Umbrella in a new and exciting way. Past titles include Angels in America by Tony Kushner, Looking for Normal by Jane Anderson, and Third by Wendy Wasserstein.
