Driven to Abstraction Opening Reception & First Thursdays

Celebrate the opening of Driven to Abstraction, the first juried art show in The Umbrella’s beautiful new gallery space, and the continuation of First Thursdays. Driven to Abstraction features 52 unique 2D and 3D abstract works by 43 artists, calling attention to the range of techniques and media used by artists who work outside the figurative realm. Pieces by resident artists from The Umbrella and selected artists from as far as Chicago will be on display from January 7 to February 23. Dana Salvo, owner of Clark Gallery in Lincoln, MA and a nationally recognized photographer, served as the show’s juror. All works on display may be purchased.

While the reception is going on in the gallery, several of The Umbrella’s resident artists will open their studios, as they do each month, for January’s First Thursday event. Enjoy the show and then wander through the building, talk with the participating artists, and watch as they work. First Thursdays offer visitors a window into the processes used by contemporary working artists and encourages visitors to explore the artistic worlds housed in The Umbrella’s building. Make sure to put the upcoming First Thursdays on February 5, March 5, and April 2 on your calendar.

Both events are free and open to the public and take place Thursday, January 8 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at The Umbrella Community Arts Center.  RSVP on Facebook to let us know you're coming!
